Newly updated today. Well, I updated ON1 Photo Raw 19.5 today. They finally updated the profile for the Sony RX100 Mark VI thankfully. It used to fringe on all four corners but that's been finally corrected. With what's going on with Adobe, suing everyone, I am glad I don't subscribe to Adobe CC anymore. Affinity Photo and ON1 Photo Raw 19.5 is fantastic. You should consider getting it if you're sick of paying a fee every month.

Darkroom App for 2018 Apple iPad Pro
It is so much better than the Apple Photos app on the 2018 Apple iPad Pro. Apple Photos is a piece of crap basically. It is a featureless digital asset management app. Darkroom is feature rich, almost like Adobe Lightroom CC. I believe it cost less than $15 Canadian. It is such a much better deal than any Adobe product. I honestly hate the subscription model that Adobe, Microsoft, Apple use to sell their products. Yes Apple is turning into a service company with services like Apple Music and their online storage services.
The only thing I haven’t found in the Darkroom app is noise reduction. I typically shoot at ISO 100 during the day and I don’t see any noise at all when using the SOny RX100 Mark VI. I can edit pretty much everything else with the Darkroom app. I am just in love with the Apple iPad Pro and its simplicity and ease. I’m off for a couple of days between contracts so tomorrow I am taking out the Canon Vixia HF G40 and shoot some footage. I don’t know where yet but somewhere.

I actually have a day...
...to myself. Girlfriend is gone out with friends so I have the day to myself where I can do what I want and where I want. I just finished breakfast and I think it's time to go buy a new vehicle. I've been wanting a Jeep Rubicon for about the past year. I've been driving a 2015 Hyundai Elantra and I can't stand the car anymore. I just need a bigger vehicle. Since I'll be moving out west in early next year, you need a bigger vehicle out west.
I also bought a new laptop. It's a Windows 10 based laptop. I'll be using it a backup to my new 2018 iPad Pro whenever I buy that. I still don't trust that an iPad can be total desktop replacement. Apple laptops now are way too expensive for what they are. You cannot even replace or upgrade any parts so bye bye Apple laptops. I'll be selling my early 2013 Apple MacBook Pro and my late 2015 Apple iMac at some point this year. Well, whenever I get my new Windows 10 laptop. I plan on upgrading the hard drives and adding more RAM to the new laptop.
Time to go get a new vehicle.

2018 Apple iPad as a computer replacement
So I'm 100% sure I'll be replacing my early 2013 MacBook Pro and late 2015 Apple iMac with a 2018 Apple iPad Pro later next year. Considering I only write this blog, visit a few websites, edit photos and videos on my laptop and PC, I'm pretty sure the 2018 Apple iPad can handle all of my needs. I visit maybe 10 websites that I can use Safari on. I'll need an FTP client upload my videos and photos to sites like Shutterstock, Pond5 and Storyblocks.
I want to get the 12.9" with the 1TB HD and the 6GB of RAM model. Go big or go home as they say. I don't who "they" are but "they" are right. From the benchmarks that I've been seeing on Youtube videos, the 12.9" iPad outperforms both of my computers by a huge margin. The only thing I'm worried about is space because I do shoot a lot of photos and videos. I'm sure I can find a work around to upload my raw files to an external hard drive. Apple will have to give the iPad some support for external hard drives. I can use the Apple Pencil 2 as a mouse. iOS still has to be upgraded to access a better file system.
I will also be using an Apple iPhone for the foreseeable future. As much as I like Android phones, the Apple ecosystem is much better. I find the apps in the Apple ecosystem are much better built and provide much more enjoyment and entertainment. Youtube, Netflix are my go to media consumption apps. I use a few astronomy apps such as Star Walk 2, PolarAlign, Solar Walk to name a few. There are a few apps I would like to get once I buy the iPad such as Affinity Photo for the iPad and Luma Fusio to edit my footage to upload to my micro stock sites.
All in all I think I'll get the Apple iPad in March of 2019 once I get enough money saved up.

The DEATH of a drone (Almost).
So I decided on my lunch break today to go fly my DJI Spark drone. In the 2 weeks that I've been flying it, I never had a problem with it. Until today. I've flown over forests, fields, rivers and lakes. Today was one of those days that I was flying over a river. The Mississippi River in fact near Pakenham, Ontario. I was on the maiden flight today when at about 200 feet away and 300 feet up, I lost any and all connection to the drone via my remote control and phone. Nothing. No visual on the phone. No connection. Absolutely nothing. I'm gazing up at the sky and it's not in sight. I stare at my phone. No signal from the DJI Go 2 app. Absolutely nothing. I'm scanning the sky, the horizon. I'm listening to see if I can hear it. Just the rush of the water. All of a sudden, off in the distance I hear a plop. Like something hitting the water and sinking waste deep into the river. I'm 110% sure that was my DJI Spark. I'm scared. I'm pissed. I'm mad beyond mad. I try and connect to the drone. Nothing. I'm about to shut my remote and head off home when all of a sudden, about 30-45 seconds after losing all connection to the drone, my feed comes up and I can see myself on my iPhone 8 Plus screen from about 300 feet up. I see me. I see my car. I feel so much relief.
How the f can I lose contact with the drone for 30-45 seconds? I swear I heard it plop down into the Mississippi. I was 110% sure I lost it. I rebooted the app. I hit the come home button like a jack rabbit repeatedly. That 30-45 seconds was maddening. If I was over a field I at least had a chance of finding it and bringing it home with me. But over a river? Not a chance. If it did drop into the water, it was a goner for sure. I don't know what caused the drone to lose connection with my remote. The app didn't crash. The phone was on full battery. The only thing I can think of is the wind or an app malfunction.
All I can is that I'm glad I have the drone back and safe with me. I'm just editing the footage I shot yesterday and today. Hope to have it up soon.
